Also working as the film’s cinematographer and editor, Armando has an extensive background in video journalism, live music videos and documentary work in addition to experience with mainstream media, broadcast TV and independent film.
Having started his career as apprentice to Academy member Thomas Allen Harris (“Through a Lens Darkly”), then working as assistant director and post production coordinator for the Crispin Glover art-house flick “Aimy in a Cage,” Armando spent a year writing the screenplay for “Engrams,” then devoted another year to every aspect of production, from location scouting to color correction.
Natalie’s extensive work in documentary films and production has come in handy more than once as she works simultaneously as script supervisor, set photographer, sound at our Cape Cod, Massachusetts location and general advisor for all things logistical and creative, through all of our locations.
While playing the lead role of Joe in the film, James also put a lot of work into refurbishing his Brooklyn apartment basement to use as a set. Using the rest of his apartment for a month and staying on top of logistical concerns throughout production, in New York and across Europe, James had a hands-on role in the look, emotion and continuity of the film.
Scott worked in pre-production and production as right-hand-man in our New York location for everything from lighting to sound to miscellaneous odds and ends. He also oversaw post-production and worked as an advisor and consultant for plot, character development and editing choices throughout the making of Engrams.
In addition to her work recording audio throughout Europe, Christina cast the roles played by Dimitris Apostolopolous and Eva Fraktopoulo, allowed us to film in her apartment in Athens, Greece, and scouted additional locations in the city including securing our location at Hotel Inn-Pella.
Marija worked well in advance to secure permits at Skopje University. She cast the roles played by Frosina Josifovska and Dino Gjozo. She also arranged for the location of Nargile Cafe in Skopje and the availability of several local extras in addition to scouting various exterior locations and assisting us with transportation and guidance through the region. Marija sings in the band Mici which recorded the song “A” for the movie’s closing credits.
In addition to playing a generous stranger who helps Joe on his way, Kris himself is a generous stranger who we met at the Kansas City Film Festival while we were representing “Inertia,” the Kafka adaptation, and he was representing his own self-written short film, “Stuck in the Middle,” which he himself stars in, and which has gained international acclaim. The role Kris plays in “Engrams” was actually inspired by his friendship. We filmed in a house owned by Kris’ sister and her husband, including their gorgeous property in the Belgian countryside.
